Factors

Please note that there are many factors to take into consideration when looking at the cost of living in a particular country.

Taxes

Consider the federal tax rate, provincial or state tax, municipal taxes, housing taxes and sales/services taxes.  Also, factor in hidden “taxes” such as tolls for highways, service fees, etc.

Healthcare

Is there universal healthcare?  Do you need to pay additional fees if you want to have a procedure or surgery done quickly?

Accommodation

Cost of renting and/or buying a home, upkeep and utilities.

Schooling

Does the country offers free public education to all citizens and permanent residents from kindergarten until they complete secondary school, which is usually at the age of 18 (Canada does!).

Transportation

Are there sales taxes on buying a car? Petrol prices? Public transport costs?

 

Cost Living Within Canada
