Work in Canada
After Your Studies

The Canadian Government wants international students to stay and work in Canada after they complete their studies.

  • The Post-Graduation Work Permit allows students to stay in Canada after they complete their studies and work for up to 3 years (depending on their length of studies)
  • The Express Entry system was recently amended to give additional points to students who have completed their studies at a Canadian University or College.
  • The Express Entry system also gives additional points to students apply for Permanent Residency who have Canadian work experience.

Within 90 days of completing your studies, you can apply to the Canadian Government for your Post-Graduation Work Permit that will allow you to stay in Canada and work for up to 3 years.

The duration of your work visa will depend on the length of your studies in Canada.

The Post-Graduation Work Permit does not tie you to any one Canadian employer.

After you complete your work period, you will have contacts in the business community within your profession but also gained valuable Canadian work experience.  Canadian work experience is given extra Canadian Immigration Points when you apply for Permanent Residency through Express Entry.

At any time you can make an application for Permanent Residency through Express Entry.

Once you are a Permanent Resident you may consider sponsoring your parents  or grandparents for Permanent Residency in Canada.
